Public sculpture beautifies cities

  1. Ah Ube-Kosan! Even if they got that Hristo bloke to wrap it up it would still be unbeautifiable. I'm a British bloke who lives about five minutes up theroad from you. I'm pretty big and have a shaved head - can't see the bald spot for the baldnesss. If you work Saturdays, you may have seen me with the wife and child after the latters swimming class.

You did well to miss the zoo at Tokiwa park. Did you go up the tower of the mining museum though?

  4. At the east end of the lake there's the amusement park and the swan area. You can see an old steam locomotive and up a slight incline is the mining museum. The tower is pretty easy to see as it is painted red and white. Entry is free and there is a lift up to the observation platform. From up there you can see almost all there is to see of Ube. They have some free binocular type things for you to use too. All the info in the musuem is in Japanese but just looking at it can be informative. For example the paintings and drawings that show women working in the mines almost naked while the some men nearby are wearing clothes. Other images do show male workers wearing just loincloths too though. At the library you can find some history books that will show you plenty of photos of old Ube and you can see how drastically it has changed.

  5. Thanks for the directions, I may head out there today (11/18), however owing to the fact that I just woke up, it may wait until next week.
